I read your blog on another site which led me to this one.
I too have read, and believe in the “Alfie Kohn” method of parenting.
While I sit and read all the differing opinions on parenting techniques, the comments criticizing and why one method is better than the other…I can not help but think that we are trying so hard to control what we can not. I will interpret this as the extreme amounts in which we love our children and this is truly a good thing. I do think however that there are better ways to put this love and care right into them.
For me, as time goes on, I fall into letting go of what might happen and rather just loving my children. I figure that if I don’t know what to do, loving them never, never loses.
In the past I felt like a mad (crazy) scientist using this parenting technique over this one because it will produce these results. Well, children are individuals and I no longer see reason in trying to tamper with who they are.
With unconditional love my children have proven to be rational, concerned about their own safety, amazing, brilliant, creative and most of all…happy.
Thank you so much for your blog.
